Are AI Product Selection Tools Reliable?

AI-based product selection is one of the most discussed topics among e-commerce sellers. Despite the attention it receives, general-purpose AI models currently struggle to handle the complexity of product selection.

Product selection is inherently complicated. Even experienced sellers cannot make short-term decisions based solely on their experience, search engines, and various information channels. Many industry-specific operational data remain private and unavailable online. Even if search engines or AI could access some of this data, outdated information often has little relevance.

Thus, both search engines and AI models should be seen only as tools to assist product selection. The final business decisions must rely on the seller’s own experience. If AI alone could discover new winning products, the market would become overcrowded. Differentiation between sellers still comes down to creativity and business insight. AI tools can raise the industry baseline but cannot create significant gaps between individuals.
